This is one of those strange, delightful things that actually does happen once in a while.  After racing to catch a late train back to CT that I missed, I plopped down on the floor of the Grand Concourse at Grand Central between two people who seemed around my age.  I struck up conversation with Robin Thomas about what we were reading – he, Vonnegut; me, Pema Chodrun.

Soon, Robin was joined by a gaggle of young men who turned out to be most of the Fleet Street Singers, the famed acapella group from Stanford University (some members pictured here).

They soon departed to catch their own train – they, too, had missed the train they intended to catch (fate, I guess) – but not without serenading me with a song called “Christina”!

Sadly, I don’t have a video of the Grand Central performance, but here is the very impressive opening number from their Winter 2008 show in Palo Alto:

Amazing, but true.
